Sarah McPhatridge, widow of Francis Hodge who died in 1863. Alfred and Sarah McPhatridge tried to see last will and testament but were told they were burned up by a raiding party during the war. Sarah and their infant child were paid $500 each in Confederate money. Sarah dissented the will and seeks: a dower of 1/3 of all Hodge's real estate, including the house, a year's allowance, an 1/8 share of the personal property or its value in money, and the value of the growing crop. |

In 1859, the plaintiff purchased from the defendant 760 bushels of wheat at 85 cents per bushel and agreed by contract to split profits with the defendant should the flour be sold at $5 per barrel. The plaintiff later executed 4 notes of unknown amounts to the defendant per the contract. The defendant later filed a bill against the plaintiff for a debt, but the plaintiff states the executed notes covered the amount agreed upon. The bill is a response in that the plaintiff should be credited $280 for debt |

Palmer bought an island on the south fork of the Holston River, in order to build a mill. This land cut into Stoffle's land, whom the tract was purchased from. Palmer was meant to pay for any trees he cut down, but not for the ones left standing. The two were in disagreement about the use and boundaries of property once building commenced. |

Additional defendants: Robert B. Barker, guardian, and Lee Vires. Plaintiff became surety of Vires on his guardianship bond, but Vires was removed and Barker appointed in his stead. Barker claimed that plaintiff was liable to him for $20,000. Plaintiff sought an account of both guardianships, that the court ratify all investments made by Vires, & that all loans be appraised. Cowan. 70-acre tract of land owned by Price was sold to satisfy Wilson's debt. Land was bought by Hiram & Alexander Brown, who sold it to wife of William F. Wilkerson. Wilkerson's claimed ownership of the 70-acre tract as well as another 8-acre tract owned by Price. Price claimed they got sheriff's deed to other tract through fraud. |

Curley) claimed Lynn owed the firm $1069.28. Lynn apparently owed money to other Philadelphia merchants as well. Thomas Tittsworth was trustee of deed of trust that Lynn executed to convey land for Tittsworth to hold in trust for satisfaction of his various debts. |

Rutherford got a loan from Fidelity for $1500 and purchased 47.78 acres of land in Sullivan County for M. D. Arnold and J. Harry Price. Initially Rutherford failed to comply to the terms of the loan which included purchasing fire insurance for the property. Fidelty Bank sought to foreclose on the property and the loan because the terms of the loan were not met. |

Plaintiff is the widow of Roland Harkins. Her father Michael Hickman (dec.) gave her a tract of land in Sullivan County. Her brother Peter (dec.) suggested a trade of their two adjoining lands and a conveyance was made and the trade took place before his death. It was sold to the defendant to pay off debts of Hickman's estate. Since no new deeds were made for the trade of land, the defendant, who lived on the one property for 7 years, then attempted to eject Harkins from the one tract to the other. |

Roller, plaintiff, and Harper, defendant, had agreed to swap horses. Harper's bay gilding was lame with one leg swollen and stiff whereas Roller's bay gilding was a fine draft horse. Harper needed a better horse for trip to Virginia but Roller refused to swap for the lame horse. Roller agreed to exchange on condition if horse got better while Harper made trip. Horse died possibly from snake bite. Harper refused to return Roller's horse. Roller charges Harper is cheating him out of his horse. |

Plaintiff are partners doing business under the firm name of Twin City Junk Company. sued the def. for $1,900.00 for in 1931, the pla. were the owners of a truck on which they held an insurance policy with the defendant against accidents, including fires. The truck was destroyed by fire and its actual value at the time was the $1,900.00, which the policy should cover, but the defendants are refusing to pay. Suing for an additional 25% penalty provided by statute. |

Betterton & Bros Store House, but McCrowell says Betterton still owed him for work on house. McCrowell says if he ever bought from store, he always pd for what he got; only other dealings w/Betterton: purchase of grindstone in 1860 (for which he pd). Transcript references General Stoneman's raid on Bristol in Dec 1864. |

Nichols is variously spelled as Nickels, Nickles. Lanier Bros. is a firm operated by B. Lanier & John W. Setz. Nichols issued a note to Malone for a plot of land and house in Bristol. Malone transferred the note to Lanier Bros. Co. Malone issued Nichols a deed on the note, but it was never registered. Lanier Bros. brought suit on the note. Malone is indebted to Geo. W. Sells. Nichols is willing to pay any outstanding debts, but wants to prevent lien placed on the property in Sells v. Malone. |

There are too many plaintiffs and defendants to name in this case. Will A. Fain was the Clerk and Master of the Chancery Court at Blountville until he resigned in Oct. 1896. He executed a clerk and master's bond for $10,000 and a commissioner's and receiver's bond for $10,000. Some his sureties became insolvent forcing more bonds to be issued with other sureties. This legal action to regain payment on bonds is the consolidation of multiple cases. |
