Brady executed a note for $384 payable to Lawrence McCown. The note was endorsed by McCown and J W White to the First National Bank. White, the last endorser paid and took up the note and then sued Brady in his own name without striking out his name as endorser or filling up the blank endorsement. Suit was filed to finally, lawfully, settle the debt. |

In October 1869 Huff & James Shelton entered a contract with York to raise a crop of corn. York was to furnish the work horses, as well as board Shelton & Huff during the season. Once the crop was produced, Huff & Shelton were to live elsewhere. Additionally, Shelton sold a quarter of the crop without York's knowledge. York complained, refusing to share further profits from Huff. Huff sued to recover his share. |

Purser recovered a judgement against Murray for $128.48 for a note made by Murray to B. J. Hill that was later endorsed to James Purser, then John Purser. Murray made payments on the note that were not credited. Suit was filed to affirm the decision of the county court. |

Norwood claimed that Butler's estate was $5000 in debt. In 1860 the deceased executed a deed of trust to Samuel Black. Deed was executed to secure creditors Faulkner and Rowan. Black sold other personal property from the deed and the proceeds were paid to Asa Faulkner. |

Additional party: Wm. M Earles, plaintiff's nephew. Case involves the execution of an $100 note as a result of William M. Earles killing one of the defendants cows. Earles claims Meadow threatened him with jail time should he not pay him for the damages. Earles felt like she was taken advantage of by Meadows because of her lack of understanding the law. |

In 1861 T. P. Crutcher drew up a note for $1150 to S. B. Spurlock and gave it to Duncan as security. However, Spurlock told Crutcher he did not endorse security for others, except family. Other notes were sued upon and their judgments threatened to impact this suit. An injunction was filed to prevent this. |

The suit against Elizabeth Settle's estate sought $1000, plus interest, for goods and merchandise received from Seth B. Settle, Elizabeth's son. Seth sued his sister who was admr. of the estate, in order to recover debts owed him by their mother. Her will instructed that her debts to Seth be fulfilled before bequests were made, but the sister did not do so. See additional documentation in Box MT 8 and MT 1151. |
