Plaintiff owned a tract of land which he purchase from his sister Catherine, who had inherited it from their mother Cyrena Stubblefield. Catherine transferred the note to Greer Woodlee. Stubblefield gave Greer a new note for the balance on his sister’s share. The land was sold to satisfy the note and bought by Greer.

Additional plaintiffs include: E. B. and J. H. Campbell, Henry Foltz and wife, Joseph Irwin and wife, Hastings and Jane Sanders, Dick and Hanna Paine and Flora Christian. Plaintiffs are the heirs of Duncan Campbell dec., who owned and left to his heirs land described as sitting in the 8th district of Warren County and granted to him by Tennessee grant no. 11386. Plaintiffs claim the defendants are now claiming parts of said land as their own. This action follows a previous action of ejectment.

Frederick J. Bell died in 1869, leaving his wife Sarah Elizabeth Thaxton Bell and his children, all minors. Bell died with a large plot of land & his wife sued for a dower. However in 1865 Bell deeded the land to J. M. Bell, who registered the deed at the court house, this was meant to be conveyed as a mortgage of trust rather than land sale. Bell was insolvent at the time of his death, having recently filed bankruptcy.
