John James obtained a military land grant from North Carolina in 1785. The grant was later assigned to James & John Sloan, now deceased. John pledged to sell the land to Armstreet Stubbelfield. Stubbelfield accused the heirs of the Sloans from executing the sale. Likewise, Pillow was not able to fully execute his purchase of land from the estate either. The case was filed to officially determine the land ownership. |
