Gamble had sold to Everett in 1862 a tract of 165 acres, part of the old Lowry Farm, for $2325. Everett paid him $725 in Confederate currency, which he had no problem with, and issued 2 promissory notes of $800 and $700 to be paid in current funds. Later, Everett offered to pay Gamble $1000 in Confederate currency to which Everett refused due to its depreciating value. Gamble suing for purchase money in good notes for the land he sold to Everett. |
