Sixteen year old Frank Johnson suffered a broken neck after diving into a swimming pool operated by the City of Alcoa. Hobart Johnson, as his representative, sued the city for $15,000 in damages. The pool was constructed over a natural stream or other water source, the water piped in from the uphill side, & drained out of the other. Good description of pool area construction. Good study for early 20th century municipal leisure space, & use research. |

Beers, driving recklessly, struck J. D. Bryant, a minor, on a street in Alcoa. The boy was standing at a street corner when Beers ran over him. He suffered great injury and mental anguish, and was permanently disabled. The Bryants sued Beers for ten thousand dollars. J. G. Flannigan was walking west from Maryville on Friendsville Pike when a dog approached and attacked him. While defending himself, he lost balance and stumbled into the roadway. At the same time Perry Headrick, Jr. struck Flannigan with his car. Flannigan sues for $5000 in damages. Flannigan was a weaver who caned chair bottoms and made baskets. Headrick was the county road commissioner. Testimonies conflict. |

Tracy and Burgin separately sued the railroad co. for $30,000 each in damages for the deaths of John Burgin and Ernest Tracy, both of whom were riding in car with W.B. Cannon, who negligently drove in front of train. Pla. charged that deceased were not at fault and that their deaths were the result of the joint negligence of Cannon and railroad co. 4 folders. Add. Koontz was the administrator of the late James Koontz, killed by an automobile driven by Fleming. Koontz had been riding in a mail truck when he and the post carrier stopped to give assistance to a wrecked driver. Fleming, said to be driving recklessly, fatally injured Koontz, who was survived by wife Tobitha and children Daisy Kiser, Lucy Phillips, Birt Koontz, Elmer Koontz, Lamer Koontz, and plaintiff Newton Koontz. Damages were asked to recover death-related costs incurred by the family. |
