Def. is the owner and operator of a small grist (corn mill) located in the 7th Civil District of Blount County. Said mill is powered by a Fordson Tractor. Pla. claims he was instructed by the Def. to crank the tractor in order to place the motor in operation. When Pla. attempted to turn the crank, the tractor threw the crank and severely injured the Pla. Pla. states that the Def. did not warn him of potential dangers.

This case file is an appeal for a conviction of unlawfully selling and manufacturing whiskey and brandy. Plaintiff was accused of possessing an apparatus used to make intoxicating liquor.

View Entry 1940 William Horace Kidd v. W. M. Condry Blount Recovery

In 1937 Kidd bought a Plymouth from Condry on credit. Kidd traded in a Chevrolet sedan for the new car as down payment. Condry repossessed the Plymouth, but did not refund any money to Kidd. Condry was ordered to pay Kidd $600 but Condry appealed. 2 folders.

View Entry 1893 William Calgey alias Calico Bill v. State Blount Murder

Cagley killed Daniel Ratliff after they spent time together with some other men in a saloon. This trial was used to further the temperance cause, blaming alcohol for the men's behavior. Jack West, Cagley's step son was also injured. Circuit court jury sentenced him to 15 years in the state penitentiary.

Oldham complained (for the use of William Caswell assignee in bankruptcy) of James and Andrew Kirkpatrick a broken covenant in the matter of debt.

View Entry 1848 William G. Boyle, admr. of Erskin H. Wear, dec. v. William Kerr Blount Debt Dispute

Erskin died; Robert Wear appointed his admr. Erskin had 3 notes against def. Kerr, upon which Robert obtained judgment but, before judgment paid, Robert died. Boyle replaced Robert & tried to enforce the judgments, but justice of the peace Edmund Wayman then allowed Kerr to produce (& offset) old 1838 accounts he held against E.H., all without notice to Boyle, compromising his ability to appeal. Boyle believes the offset was improper & barred by the statute of limitations. Witness: James M. Greenway.

Additional plaintiffs in error: Muriel Taylor, E. M. Grant, Morristown Trust Co., and the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States. Additional defendants in error: Blount County Highway Commission. Defendants in error are seeking to appropriate by condemnation for right of way purposes a tract of land located in the 11th Civil District of Blount County for future use as state highway 33-A. Exhibit material includes a map of the proposed highway.

Plaintiff is sued for damages after a car he owned, driven by James Henderson, was struck by a car driven by the defendant. The accident occurred at the intersection of Broadway and Washington Ave. in Maryville, Tennessee. Case file notes that the plaintiff was living on Pflanze Street at the time of the accident. James Henderson lived with the plaintiff.

Safell also spelled Saffell throughout the case. Williams is president of the Up Tenn. River Co. Additional defendant: J. T. Love. Before the war, defendants signed a promissory note from plaintiff in the amount of $1800. The note was lost in the war, but the defendants have yet to repay Williams.
