There were 3 other lawsuits involved in this case. Bowman sued the deft. for personal injury; Carr sued for damage to his clothing & other damage. Mrs. Shupe sued for $10,000 for personal injury. Bowman & Carr's suits were heard in a Justice of the Peace Court. |

Mr. Carden alleges he was treating silk fabric with ammonia in a textile factory when he was overcome with the fumes, causing him to pass out, and hit his head on equipment. Most witnesses testify that the defendant seems "crazy" since the accident, however others testify that Carden had substantial drinking problem. Rather than injured from work, they suggest the injury was the result of drunken carelessness. |

American Bemberg began its factory in the area outside the City of Elizabethton in Carter County in 1827, producing rayon. It had recently changed its name from American Glanzstoff Corporation (see many other docs containing this in the case name). The city agreed not to expand to include the plant, unless the trustees of the company agreed. The city expanded around the plant. The plant expanded, & was exempted from being city property. City then sued for taxes. See box ET 801 for Add'l documents. |

The next day as Street was passing through Roan Mountain, he was shot in the back by someone who he identified as the Pla. |
