Defendant sued the plaintiffs, business partners under the firm name of Ramsey and Darby, and received judgment for the payment of several notes. Plaintiffs complained that although they paid the judgment in full, their property was still levied upon.

View Entry 1855 Henry Smith v. Dudley Talley Cocke Petitions for Certiorari

On the 4th day of October 1853, a certain Henry Smith recovered a judgment against defendant for about the sum of fifty dollars, relative to sale to plaintiff of a certain field of clover at the price of $55.00. Appeal in Error by defendant. Previous water damage evident with documents.

View Entry 1842 James Adair v. Thomas Davis Cocke Petitions for Certiorari

Adair gave Davis a note for $30 in 1841. Davis had inherited 1/4 of a tract of land in Cocke County, & Adair purchased the land from Davis via note. It was later discovered that William Davis'will, father of Thomas, bequeathed all of the land to other heirs, leaving Thomas with no land.

View Entry 1873 Thomas Smith v. Joel Rem & Daniel Ragan Cocke Petitions for Certiorari

The plaintiff owned property in 1868 and 1869 and made taxes payable by the clerk of the county court and were collected by J. Rem, who was at the time the revenue/tax collector for the county. The constable, James Arrington, then said the plaintiff was liable for the said taxes he had already paid to the county.
