Records pertaining to the case were destroyed in Cocke Co. courthouse fire. Nature of case unclear. Frances J. Carter bought the disputed land from Joseph Frances & his wife, Elizabeth (King) Frances. J. Frances executed a title bond. Land originally belonged to Elizabeth's father, James King. While a feme covert, Elizabeth refused to execute a deed to the land after the title bond was executed. She left ca. 1833. Female plntffs. were her only children & the male plntffs. were their husbands. |
