The defendant was one of many stock holders in the German Bank of Worster, Ohio. Around 1841 the bank suspended the use of specie pay. The legislature of OH wanted the charter of the bank revoked which prevented the bank from collecting dues until its investors became insolvent. Mr. Karthouse purchased the liability notes, himself insolvent, and was accused of doing so to defraud Bentley. Bentley sued to recover his investment. |

They did not pay the note because they considered Draughon's guilty of a breach of contract. Draughon's denies the arrangement existed. |

He stated that someone in the house had taken it, mainly Colonel Thomas B. Swan. Swan sued for slander. Swan stated that he might commit assault & battery on Ford. Ford was apparently gathering money to pay off a debt he owed in Nashville. An enslaved boy, Peter, is mentioned. |

In 1910 James Snodgrass purchased 1300 shares of stock in the Chronicle Publishing Co. from Charles E. Keyes, for a total of $1300, $400 paid at the time of suit. Fannie, Charles' wife signed the contract as security. The contract was ified, Snodgrass returning his stock, but Keyes never returned notes or payment. The suit sought to end the contract & resolve the situation simply & legally. |
