Rouse also spelled Rous. Defendant in error received a judgment in a previous case which plaintiff in error claims was unjust. Plaintiff complains that he had no day in court, and did not know of the existence of the judgment until an officer came with execution. It appears that Lewis's wife Jennie Lewis is also a plaintiff but her name does not appear in the case style.

July 1875 a judgment was rendered against Mundy for $202.50 in favor of defendants on an account.

At the time of the case, Gaines was the Comptroller for the Treasury of the State. The plaintiff was petitioning for money to be sent to Roane County to pay teachers.

Add def: N. A. Kemper. Pla. was convicted by the Caldwell (judge in the case) of several misdemeanors and ordered to pay fines and costs. Pla. was unable to make payment and sentenced to the county workhouse. T. A. Sykes, Wm. Perkins, and J. P. Rhines then delivered several notes to satisfy plaintiff’s costs and obtain his release. Def. later brought suit against said notes and received judgement. Pla. complained that he was then unlawfully re-arrested and placed in a workhouse to work off the debt.

The plaintiff claimed that according to the acts passed by the General the Governor was required by law to give them money or state bonds to build the road.

Writ concerns establishing a new street in Nashville. Mayor in case: John Hugh Smith. Street though John Dickinson and Dickinson and Shrewsbury owned by John Dickinson.

Co-defendants are Josiah F. Williams and David McGavock, executors of Joseph Philips. Complainants are attempting to collect $99 owed to the deceased Joseph Philips by the terms of the will of Benjamin Philips, but which the executors had never paid. Book H page 232

McMurry seeks to appeal a judgment against him in a prior hearing. He states that he was not present at the former hearing and did not know of the charges against him until he was told there was a warrant out for him. He claims his signature was forged.
