This case relates to land grant #300 in the name of John Sevier for 32,000 acres dated 1795 in the Middle Tennessee District. Some of the land was now a part of Overton and Fentress Counties. The land was on the Cumberland River with a plat to subdivide. Sevier sold the land to Gordon and his descendants. Gordon donated the land to the Commissioners of the and town of Monroe. George W. Sevier and William Chilton were to divide the land. |

Years before this suit Jesse Robinson purchased land in Fentress County from Crouch for $350. All but $71 was paid at the time of purchase. In 1866 Crouch filed a bill against the Robinsons to collect the debt. Robinson was dead by this point and sued his wife and heirs to collect. |

The suit was filed to legally settle claims to land owned by William's estate & set a widow's dower. There is mention of Sarah Crouch, a black woman making claim to the land, but no statement of her relation to William. |
