The defendant lived with his wife and children near the home of the victim. Witnesses say the defendant told them that he had intercourse with the victim twice after the abduction. Case file notes that the victim had left home before, seeking escape from her family who she described as cruel. |

His grocery reportedly attracted lewd women, and drunk, loud, swearing men. Many witnesses all described the same scene: drunken women allowing themselves to be handled inappropriately in public. |
