View Entry 1865 Henry Harris v. J.W. Thornburgh Grainger Debt, Petition on

Thornburgh executed $100 note in favor of Harris, who gave Confederate money (rebel money) for the note, which Thornburgh used to pay another debt & to pay a high price for medicine. Dispute over whether Confederate money qualified as consideration. Thornburgh argued no consideration for note, since Confederate money not recognized by law as money at all & had no legal value.

View Entry 1891 James W. Perry v. Cain and Richardson Grainger Debt on Account

Defendants contracted with the plaintiff for the purchase and delivery of 335 crossties. Plaintiff delivered said crossties but defendants denied entering a contract and refused to pay. Plaintiff brought suit to collect debt.

View Entry 1846 Sam Rhea v. William L. Atkinson & Joseph Cobb Grainger Debt, Execution on

Rhea recovered judgment against Atkinson for debt & filed suit to execute that judgment against Atkinson's property, specifically a negro girl aged 9 or 10 named Nancy, but her ownership was in dispute. Atkinson was married to Rhea's daughter Elizabeth. Nancy's mother was Dinah, who originally belonged to Rhea. Case mentions the Atkinson children: Pharoe, Joseph, Catherine, & James. Joseph Cobb was Atkinson's security.
