"Henry Blount, a deputy sheriff of Hardin County, with one Arthur Kelly, about 9:30 at night in the early days of November, 1924, was out south of Savannah, about the old Burnt Stand, watching to see if he could catch some parties who were reported to be in the whiskey business." They heard some people "cursing" and went to investigate. One person took off on a horse but they were able to grab the bridle reins of Foust's horse. They found "fruit jars containing liquor" in sacks tied to Foust's saddle. |

Ed Cromwell, deputy sheriff of Hardin County, Sheriff Williams, Deputy Sheriff W. C. Berlin, Wayne Hall, and John Pipes were out south of Savannah searching for an illegal still. "When they got there a run had already been made and the still moved away." They heard shots and followed the sound to the public road. The defendant ran, they gave chase, and Foust fell on the ground. Cromwell grabbed Foust by the collar and picked up a "half gallon jug that contained white corn whiskey." |

Murdoc McDaniel died and partitioned his land among his seven children: Linville McDaniel, John McDaniel, J.T. McDaniel, C.C. Cierly, Ruth Gattis, Mary Rowsey, and Lucy Ann McDaniel. Lucy Ann was "weak minded" and required long-term care. Cierly provided support for Lucy Ann throughout her life. After Lucy Ann's death, Cierly sought to claim the land granted to Lucy Ann.
