Henry S. Bure-- [last name illegible] owned two mules claimed to be "notoriously mischievous stock." They were known to be in the habit of "throwing down or jumping fences." Charles allowed them to roam, so they destroyed crops. Charles sued for compensation. |

Powel sued the rail road for the loss of a box containing goods headed for Union Springs, Alabama. Powel was moving his family from Tennessee to Alabama and shipped his household goods in multiple boxes. One box never arrived. Apparently the boxes had to change cars during the trip and the railroad alleged that the charges for changing cars was not paid. |

$10,000 damages. Plaintiff was pushing a loaded hand car along the tracks following a train with another train approaching in the rear. The train he was following stopped in a curve out of his sight and the hand car collided with the train throwing the plaintiff off and injuring him. |

Gibbons states Tarter maliciously made false statements against him to tarnish his good name and standing in the community. |

Cooper loaned Horton a horse, and it died while he was using it. Horton claims he said he would ride the horse to Flat Gap in Hawkins County & back, but the horse became ill & died. He was accused of "converting" the horse, or using it for a purpose other than agreed upon. Horton offered a portion of the horse's stomach as proof that the horse died of botts (botflies), the maggots having eaten through the walls of the horse's stomach. She sued to recover the value of the horse. |

C. C. Miller dec. originally brought suit against the defendants for debt due by promissory note but died while the case was pending.The suit was now being prosecuted by the executors of C. C. Miller's estate. The defendants deny owing said debt and claim to have already paid it in Confederate money. The matter in controversy appears to be whether the contract was written to allow payment in said Confederate notes. |
