In the original bill, plaintiff claims George A. Murray, a businessman from Virginia engaged in the lumber business, owes money on account based on a deal made by his agent, Samuel Haynes.

Defendant is indebted to the plaintiff in the sum of $1,489. Plaintiff is also sued for damages for the unjust detainment of the funds in the sum of $1,000.

In a previous file there was a verdict of the plaintiff paying a debt of $32.00 with court fees. The plaintiff in this bill was filing a writ of Certiarari against the previous judgement.

Bank sued Defs on $1,386 note: Anderson as maker & McDermot & Cobb as first & second endorsers (respectively) of note. McDermot died during suit; Jane McDermot & James B. Cook were his admrs.

Plaintiff claims defendant is in debt to him to the amount of $785. Original cause of debt unknown. Defendant made salt at the Salt Works in Hawkins county and conducted business under the name George and Sam Powell. Defendant states contract was to be paid in salt at Confederate prices. Defendant argues that the contract is and void. See also ET 1211.

Robert Morrison claims that William and John Hamilton owe him a debt of $93.37

Additional defendant: William Bruner. The plaintiff sold one tract of land each to the defendants Johnson and Bruner. The plaintiff later brought suit against both men for unpaid notes related to the sales, and in both instances received judgment in his favor. Plaintiff now complains that although both tracts of land were sold, neither defendant had legal title to said land, and therefore both judgments remain unpaid.

In May 1863 Pla.. borrowed $400 in Confederate money from Willis & secured a note payable in 12 mos. in paper money from the Bank of TN. Pltf. paid $145 in the form of a US voucher when note came due, but then def.s. sued them & won a judgment against them on the collection of the note. Pla.. have been informed that notes executed when Confederate money was legal cannot be collected & ask the court to enjoin defts. from collecting on the judgment.

Plaintiff James sued the defendant for repayment of a debt and requested the sale of certain lands to meet said obligation.

Incomplete file. Court transcript only. Case relative to debt on house and lot valued at $200.00, note held by Daniel S. Fields. Plaintiff: James K. Simpson, John A. Simpson, William Simpson, Robert Simpson, and W. V. Sevier. Total debt owed by D. S. Fields to C. J. McKinney listed as $1,437.11.

Additional defendants Edward Watterson, D. C. Bean. Watterson was indebted for land. Watterson was also being asked to sign over the deed of another tract of land to pay off the debt.

The American Oil Co. claims that the defendants are indebted to them in the sum of $1935.73 ledger books included.

Samuel Bunch got judgment against brother-in-law Thomas M. Anderson in Circuit Court for note Thomas endorsed as accommodation maker for brother John H. Anderson (went bankrupt & moved to Mississippi) & Bunch. Later transactions involved Samuel's son McDonough Joseph Bunch. Samuel died; admr sued. Thomas says Samuel promised to pay 1/2 original note, but didn't; asking court for relief. Testimony: Samuel "addicted to habits of intemperance" in yrs before his death. Thomas died while suit ongoing.

Plaintiff sued defendants for $2071.40 for debt due on account. Plaintiff attempted to recover the sum by taking ownership of a lot of land owned by defendant in 10th civil district of Hawkins County. Addtl def: James Wright, J. R. Armstrong, George A. Smith, and Alice E. Brazelton.

The complainant claimed that the defendant purchased goods with a note. The note became due and the complainant claimed that the defendant has not paid the note.

Incomplete case file. Sullivan is the plaintiff in error and is indebted to Fugate. Original cause of debt unknown.

Complainant alleged that defendant had an outstanding balance on land sold.

Add. Defs: H.S. Mehaffy, Richard Harris, Stokely Brooks, J.W. Parmenter, Joseph S. King. Timmons owed Kyle money & had allegedly absconded to Missouri but, before he left, sold a house & lot in Rogersville to Mehaffy, which sale Kyle believes to be fraudulent & intended to avoid creditors. Kyle also believes Timmons has notes & accounts in the hands of Brooks & that Timmons assigned one note to Def Parmenter, who assigned it to Def King, & that the original assignment to Parmenter was fraudulent.

David Chambers dec. left a will which gave land to Chambers. They sold the land and were seeking the money from the purchase of the land.

Plaintiff filed this case against the estate and heir of Robert C. Kyle, dec. Defendant was the only child of the deceased. Plaintiff filed this case to recover a debt owed to him by deceased. Additional Defendant: W. H. Watterson, guardian of defendant
