Additonal defendants Samuel Cowan, Mary Cowan aka Turk Brady. Kilter purchased land from Cowan who clailmed to own a homestead with whom he called his wife. Samuel Cowas was a man of color and Mary Cowas was a white woman. They were not married by law. Kilter was looking to to pay off the balance for the land and was also seeking the court to state that Mary Cowan could not in the future seek money for the homestead or claim ownership. |
