View Entry | 1898 | John R. Maples v. A. R. Rawlings | Knox | Land and Title Dispute |
Rawlings sued Maples for $134. In 1898 Maples bought a house making it his homestead. He then mortgaged it to Charles O. Ward, from who the house was purchased, although the deed named Cunningham. Maples was to pay Ward a total of $950, putting $200 down in cash. However, the judgment lien against Maples took precedence before his homestead, threatening him and his family with homelessness. |
