Camp Porter, an African American carpenter, was prosecuted for attempted petty larceny after breaking into the home of John Kent & attempt to rape Kent's wife, Elizabeth Ann Kent. Both Porter & Kent worked for Judge Temple, Porter even lived on his property. Porter would visit the Kent family to visit, while "picking his banjo." Rape charge dropped due to lack of evidence.
