Robert Heiskell was an African American man who initially sued over a dispute at the Staub Theatre. Heiskell purchased a reserve seat at a higher rate and claimed he was owed a seat in the "colored" reserved section. He was ejected but contested his treatment. The show was called "The Devil's Auction" and was very popular. The left side of the balcony was designated "black" and the right was designated "white" with the middle designated as what ever "the majority" was for a particular show. |

Plaintiff Varner claimed rightful title to a tract of land in the 3rd civil district of Knox County, in which the defendant had entered and removed valuable timber. Varner requested the court issue him a writ to retake possession, verify his title, prevent further trespass, and award him damages for timber lost. |

Newman and Lanning entered a written agreement in which it was agreed Newman would prosecute the Revolutionary War pension claim for one Martha Miller for her husabnd Henry Miller's service. It was agreed Lanning would received one third of said pension. The case was brought because Lanning states he has not received the one third of the pension he was promised. |

Fox was in the employ of the defendants when they allegedly loosened a timber on the building that Fox was on. He was injured, crippled, lamed, and maimed, and lost the use of his limbs so that he could no longer support himself. Also named as a defendant was Edward Sanford. The defendant made a promise to the plaintiff to deliver sixty thousand bushels of wheat to certain depots along their rail road line. The plaintiff believes the defendant attempted to defraud him because they later refused to carry and convey the wheat to the planned city of Dalton. Warwick started neighborhood school by subscription, Warwick to be paid varying rates to teach different subjects: spelling, reading, writing, arithmetic, English grammar, geography, natural philosophy. Schoolhouse built on Jonathan Bishop's land. Warwick taught 4 weeks, then locked out of schoolhouse, giving rise to dispute. Within testimony some questioned Warwick's teaching competency, but also his loyalty to the CSA. School directors: Bishop, Roberts, Adam Hodges. |
