J. W. Wilkerson, the Marshal of Lenoir City asked John Glass to purchase whiskey from the Pla. in error in an attempt to see if he was illegally selling whiskey. Wilkerson succeeded in purchasing the whiskey and received a shipment several days later. Hix argues that Wilkerson made him believe the whiskey was for a sick relative and that he sold it to him out of kindness. Casefile includes a price list for various amounts and types of whiskey. The Whiskey in question was produced by the R. M. Rose Co. |

Gamble was convicted of stealing Dr. Penlan's watch. However, Gamble insisted that he had bought the watch at Knoxville during the October Carnival (1898). He stated that he bought watch from a man named Britton; Gamble then sold it to a man named Ray. In this brief for the state, it was said that Gamble made no attempt to find Britton or Ray to corroborate his story. Typescript is very light & difficult to read. Old box not numbered. |

Defendant was indicted in the September Term, 1870 for having "carnal knowledge of a female under the age of ten years" on 10 March 1868. Circuit judge quashed the indictment on the grounds that Loudon Co. had not been formed at that time. Supreme Court ruled that the Circuit Court judge erred in quashing the indictment. |

County deputy sheriff Lee Scott purportedly obtained a warrant to search the home of Tom Martin. Deputy John Bailey accompanied Scott. After arriving at Martin's house, they searched him and found four bottles of whiskey in his pockets and three bottles tied under his belt. He was charged with possession of intoxicating liquors. |
