Plaintiff is the Trustee of the Bank of Columbia, which failed on October 17th 1891 and "executed a general assignment for the benefit of creditors." Defendant is the Receiver of the Second National Bank of Columbia, which became insolvent in 1893. Dispute related to account settlements between the two banks.

View Entry 1895 Gaar, Scott & Company v. Hughes & Hatcher Maury Debt on Account

Gaar, Scott & Company is an Indiana corporation. Hughes & Hatcher is George T. Hughes and E. H. Hatcher residents of Maury County. Prior to October, 1891, complainant was the owner of a note for $185.00 made by B. H. McKennon which was over due. The note was given to Hughes & Hatcher for collection. They placed the note with J. C. McGaw, a constable of the County who collected the money due - $208.85. When the money was collected, it was deposited in a bank that was failing.

Addtl dfnt.: Ella Helm, wife of D.C. Helm. On Sept. 26, 1892 the Helms issued a note to Webster for $160 and interest due at 6 months. The due date has passed without payment.
