Isaac Cole died in 1867 leaving 600 acres valued at $5-6k. His heirs contest the line of inheritance, his son Wm P Cole and A. S. Deen sued to have the land partitioned for sale. Cole purchased land, as did other heirs, but were unable to pay on the purchase. This suit seeks to settle the debts and distribution of the land left by Isaac Cole. |

A. J. Clark was visiting from Iowa and decided to sell his carriage and horses to Ferguson and return to Iowa on train. Ferguson later attempted to pay the note in Confederate money. Clark's agent initially refused the Confederate money but was pressured by threats to accept. Clark is now suing Ferguson for the note due. |

Henry Tucker, dec. left a will that stated that a certain parcel of land would be given to his widow and her husband if she remarried. If she did not remarry the land was to be given to James Tucker when he reached 21 years of age. Meanwhile, David Tucker conveyed the land to Trotter. The plaintiff asserts that Trotter knew that David Tucker did not have the right to sell the land. |

The defendant, the Sheriff, levied an execution upon the slaves of the plaintiff as property of John Stanfiel to satisfy an execution in favor of W.R. Morton rendered in Circuit Court. |

2 Folders. The Vice President of the First National Bank, Grover Cleveland Adams, lacking the authority, made loans totaling $7,200 to his brother in law B.B. Fite, without notifying the Bank President or Board. Loan written to finance the Fite Construction Company. To recover the money, the Bank sued the Indemnity Company, asserting that the loan was invalid. Royal Indemnity denied liability and insisted the loan was in fact valid. Exhibits include copies of loans & bills. See also ET 1545. |

Cannon sold Marshall land upon which John Den had a lease. Marshall failed to pay, and Cannon sued Marshall to recover payment. Marshall in turn was sued Gregory for failing to pay him for a lot that was sold by Marshall in order to pay off Cannon. John Den was ejected from his property because the land owner had not paid his debt. |

John died, then Betsey. McCarty sued & secured slaves but they escaped (helped by Robert T. Hanks & McElrath, Morgan's sons-in-law). Same case as John L. McCarty, ex. of John Walker Jr., dec. v. In 1862, plaintiffs bought a slave from James Cliborne for $1500 to be paid in Confederate treasury notes. Plaintiffs paid him $750 and gave a promissory note for the other $750 in Confederate currency. Defendants brought assignment suit against plaintiffs for said note (which plaintiffs claimed to have paid). According to plaintiffs, said suit was meant to defraud and hinder them from collecting $3000 due them from Cliborne. Add. documents located in ET 1651. |

Plaintiff further complains that Eli Cleveland has conveyed property to other parties in order to avoid his debts. |
