Willis worked for American Textile Woolen Co. and was insured by Aetna under a group policy. He became permanently injured in April 1932. Aetna refused to pay for his disability. Willis's original policy was submitted as evidence & is filed with case.

Plaintiff purchased several tracts of land from defendant, however it was later determined that sale was illegal and invalid because defendant co-owned land with family members as part of an inheritance of Lou Devine, dec.

Additional defendants: A. Dean and J.W. Arcley. In original suit of W.W. Lillard v. Henry Sheets, Lillard obtained judgment of $12.54 against Sheets. McDaniel [alt. McDonald] sued Dean, as constable of the previous case, and defendants, his sureties, for broken covenant and failing to return execution to plaintiff's damage $100. Justice ruled in plaintiff's favor. Defendants appealed.

Plaintiff claims Webb is in debt to him for $25 in "rent corn," accrued from the use of what is known as the Dower land of Sarah Webb, of which he is the owner in fee. Sarah Webb is the mother of the defendant and agreed to rent the land to the defendant to raise corn. Sarah Webb died and the plaintiff allowed the defendant to continue cultivating the crop. When the plaintiff demanded payment, the defendant refused.

Plaintiff sought damages resulting from the interference by the defendants with the flow of the water in a sluice in the Little Tennessee River separating the mainland of petitioners' farm from an island included in the boundaries of the farm. The plaintiff's husband, James Murr, was killed on the tracks of the defendant's railroad. East Tennessee case found in West Tennessee box. File consists of opinion only.

D. A. Browder, admr., Josiah K. Johnston, dec., a plea of debt of $1,660.00. "the plaintiff sues the defendant for seventeen hundred dollars due with interest thereon on a promissory note executed by Hamilton Johnston who is not now sued & the said defendant to the intestate of the plaintiff, J. K. Johnston, on the first day of our Lord 1860."

Origin of debt: Previous judgment.

Plaintiff brings suit seeking the payment of debt due by promissory in the amount of $1,000. Origin of debt is unclear. Plaintiff complains that the defendant is about to move property out of state and is seeking a writ of attachment against said property.

Johnston had a load of goods worth $108.59 shipped from Knoxville to Philadelphia, Tenn. While the goods were being stored overnight at the Philadelphia depot, the depot burned. Johnston's goods were destroyed in the fire.

Additional Defendants: Arthel Slim Melton. Defendant struck Ross Standridge injuring and killing him.

W. J. Fowler claimed that F.K. Berry was indebted to him in the amount of $1000 for lumber. Case in 2 Folders in ET Box 1824

Other defendants: Samuel Bradford. Defendants ejected plaintiff from property he was leasing.

Jones obtained default judgment against G. W. Patterson as admr of estate of George Patterson, dec (who died w/no will), for amount allegedly owed on store account for goods George bought during his lifetime & for burial clothes purchased after his death. Patterson claimed judgment was erroneous & asked court to retry the case.

Trespass on the Case. Harmon said Defs. wrongfully caused his gray mare to be seized & sold under writ of execution, which execution was based on judgment William Hale (now dec.) obtained jointly against Harmon & William Irons. Harmon said debt was paid. Debt was for $16.725 & Harmon said gray mare worth $150. In bringing suit, Harmon claimed to be in extreme poverty. Def. Vaughn was the sheriff who levied on Harmon's property. Def. Enos D. Shields married Hale's widow, Def. Sarah G. Shields.

In his role as county clerk, Smith handled a land sale in the1860s. He later went on to purchase the land himself, but failed to make payment. The case mentioned that his fault was not a breach of office, but rather a failure to pay the debt he owed.
