Stafford was employed to Railroad Company as a brakeman. In the process of compiling two cars, his arm was caught in-between and smashed badly enough it had to be amputated. Stafford claims it was the Railroad's negligence, but Railroad charges that it was Stafford's negligence for not applying for a compiling stick or having another man on top to apply the brakes. |

Baldwin fell into a hole in a city owned street and broke his leg. The hole was dug by city workers and left unmarked and open. He became very ill and was in much pain, staying at the National Hotel in Clarksville for months. He sued for compensation for his injuries. |
