Huckins (Christian name not known to jury; just initials), phrenologist, charged w/larceny & obtaining property under false pretenses for stealing from William M. Alexander 2 mos boarding & 7 books (including hymnal, English & Latin dictionaries, geometry book, books about Henry Clay & Washington). Huckins was giving phrenology lectures & asked to board w/Alexander (London, TN hotelkeeper), falsely representing he owned real estate in AL & TN & could pay for same. Jury convicted him of petit larceny.

View Entry 1932 State, ex rel Ida Marney v. T. F. Ingram Roane Petition for Mandamus

Defendant is a county judge. I. Marney was married to one Cleve Marney, who was found guilty of cruel and inhuman treatment of the plaintiff and eventually deserted her. She filed for divorce and alimony in a case heard in 1930. C. Marney failed to provide the ordered child support, but the defendant, who presided over the case, failed in his duty to bind C. Marney to an action of the Grand Jury and held the case over with no discretion for the law.
