Plaintiff claimed said letters caused immense social harm to her, and sought $10,000 damages. Civil court found for plaintiff and assessed damages at $2,000. Plaintiff was a 24 yr. old school teacher living in Noah TN in 1886; she had met defendant at his store in the same community. |

Carson was riding in his carriage along the Salem turnpike in Murfreesboro when he came near a steam locomotive. The engine discharged a large cloud of steam and spooked the horse, causing him to upset the buggy. Carson fell and damaged his leg so severely he was bedridden for six months. A mule escaped from Jerigan's barn and some boys tried to drive it back to the barn. It then tried to cross a cross gap in the train but became fastened to it. It became frightened and tried to free itself inadvertently bruising and cutting itself. It in a few months from these injuries. The track had a patented cattle guard stock gap patented by Eugene Cook. Description of the use of this guard included. Defense argues that the guard was not installed properly and this caused the accident. |
