In 1810 Barton purchased some land in Rutherford County for $500, the title not to be created until the debt was paid in full. However, another man had a right to some of the land and Barton was anxious to have the deed filed. Barton sued so that the entire contract might be cancelled. |

In 1801 John & Ephraim Davidson created a 50/50 partnership, splitting all profits, and co-owning assets. John then purchased 300 acres of land and many other business dealings resulting in debt. Ephraim sued stating that this risky behavior was not in the best interest of the equity of the partnership. |

Add'l Def's: John, Thomas, James, Elisha, Andrew, Robert, Jane, Rebeckah, and Elizabeth. Boyd, for himself & as agent for Elijah Flack, James Brckin,Hennekin Harris agreed to sell Richard Myrick 750 acres of their land for $1k. Myrick made partial payment then died. Myrick "mortgaged" an enslaved woman allowing Boyd to use her until the debt was recovered. She had a child. The suit was filed to settle the debt, & therefore the estate. |

Simon Miller pledged to John Nichols in 1805 to pay $640 within six months, in return for a fee simple deed on a tract of land. Miller then created a conveyance to Simon Miller, jr. for the same land. Miller, sr. was accused of trying to defraud Nichols by tricking him into land that he would never rightfully own. |
