Logan Perry, referred to in the case as "colored," was accused of assaulting James Saunders with a pistol, shooting him in the neck and chest. The assault resulted in Saunders' death. Saunders and his cousin hired Perry to pick cotton on their farm. They had a disagreement one day. A witness saw them later that day, Perry telling Saunders that he had to treat him better. Saunders told him to go, and Perry pulled the gun. Saunders chased him with a timber, Perry shot him. Died six days later. |

Davis' son testified that the field was large and they didn't account for the horse's whereabouts. He said he had no knowledge of the defendant or when the horse was stolen. |
