Mrs. Rogers originally sued by husband & next friend, Abner Rogers, for $5000 in damages. On 4 April 1897 she seriously injured her foot & ankle while disembarking from one of the railroad's cars. Track was being worked upon; the area nearest her stop was negligently piled high with rocks that she had to step on to leave the car, thus causing her fall. Mrs. Rogers resident of Collierville; she was visiting her father, Judge Eldridge, in Memphis.

Neal wishes to cancel a mortgage on the grounds that it was overpaid when he was the borrower from New Orleans Loan, Building, and Savings Association. When that institution went into liquidation it transferred the mortgage to the defendant. The new loan was under the guise of a new loan. All payments to the original loan should be credited to this loan which has been dealt with.

View Entry 1898 Citizens Street Railroad Co. v. Lucia E. Robertson Shelby Injury and Damages

Case arose from an electric streetcar incident in Memphis. The defendant was the only person on the car when the conductor had "to attend to an urgent call of nature." It was claimed that Robertson left the car for a few moments, returned, and was thrown to the ground before she alighted the car, injuring herself in the process. By the time the case got to the Supreme Ct., the rail car company was claiming that she had been awarded an excessive settlement.
