Jones is the widow of William E. Jones. Her, along with her children and grandchildren are bring a suit against Townsend over a tract of land that belonged to William Jones. The defendant, Townsend, allegedly set up a claim to the land. Timber was being cut off the land and the plaintiffs were not happy about it. The tract was about 1150 acres. Michael Eagan died in 1862 leaving a considerable estate behind. The plaintiffs allege that when Melson was appointed administrator of the Eagan's estate he collected his rents, debts due to him and other assets to a large amount wasted and misappropriated the same. The plaintiffs are trying to completely remove him from the administration of the estate.

Donovan had bought the possessions of a Mr. Croghan. A dispute arose as to whether this altered the state of his previous debt to Mr. Pointer. Metal brads unable to be removed.

Other defendants, also executors of John A. Rives: Franklin Rives and Wright Rives. This case is connected to a pending case, in which the Rives executors are sued John T. Finnie and Charles Kortrecht for a debt due. The defendant's surname is spelled "Cockrill" on the cover of the record, and "Cockerell" elsewhere.

Cheek and his business partner Jesse W. Page sue for the use of Robert C. Brinkley. They bought June 1866 a $5000 insurance policy by the Columbia Fire Ins. Co. of New York for which they paid $200 on machinery fixed and movable in the 3 story cotton mill in Memphis near the Wolf River and Court Square. In November 1866 a fire damaged or destroyed enough of the property to make the Columbia Fire Ins. Co. liable. The plaintiffs sue to force payment.

The plaintiff, Julius Hark, is the creditor of the defendants to the amount of about $200. He is contesting an assignment of goods meant to pay off the other creditors of the defendants.

Mr. Lumpkin sold a property of his to Haywood L. Chapman. The plaintiffs allege that part of Lumpkin's debt remains unpaid.

Parrott set it up where Bruce was the 'aren't to hire out his slaves, take care of them with clothes, medical attention, etc. The slaves were being rented out in Grenada, Mississippi and they were being paid for in Confederate money, due to Confederate occupation in 1862. Initially, Houghton sued Bruce, after the Civil War, for money allegedly paid him for the slaves of Parrott he rented out. Subsequently, Bruce filed a countersuit.

Mathis was the collector of privilege taxes for Shelby County. Business of Menken Brothers was operated by J. A. Menken, N. D. Menken and J. S. Menken of Shelby County, Tennessee.

Co-plaintiff: Jane E. Bradley. Co-defendants: A. M. Smith; Firm of Wolcott, Smith & Co.; A. P. Curry, Sheriff; J. F. Grooms. Plaintiff Bradley rented land to David C. Cross, who sub-let it to the defendants after his crop failed. Plaintiffs claim that the defendants, who raised a successful crop, owe them the income from their crop as rent payment. The case is a debt dispute, Simpson and his co-defendant B. T. Hurt owe the plaintiff money for "goods, wares and merchandise" The plaintiffs are E. J. Taylor and W. C. Rutland.

McBean & Co. were hired to paves streets, etc. throughout Memphis. The City Council decided when roads were to be repaired and it was the responsibility of the citizens whose land joined the streets in need of repair to pay for the work. Apparently some citizens were not paying. 4 folders.

John C. Berry of Arkansas bought a quantity of corn from the firm Palluli & Reese. With them present he paid a portion of the purchase money to Captain Lee of the steamer Cheek and a portion to each partner. Reese soon obtained a warrant against him but he was unable to comply because word of the warrant reached him as his steam boat was about to set sail and he had prior business obligations that would have been badly hurt if he had not left. He alleges he paid all the debt.
