Both parties were married in 1917. Bernice Allen sued claiming J. C. purchased a piece of property using money they both earned but failed to include her name on the deed. Bernice was requesting her 1/2 interest in the property.

View Entry 1925 E. T. Cobb & Z. L. Cobb v. T. A. Sanders et. al. Shelby Land, Contract Dispute

Additional defendants: Alma Sanders and Mrs. Maggie Kinney. Plaintiffs purchased a lot from the Sanders that they claimed to have purchased from Kinney. Title search showed that the Sanders did not have clear title to the lot. The Cobbs sued to ify the purchase contract and to recover money paid as a down payment. Lot is noted as being Lot 5 of the Overton and Grovenor subdivision of the H. W. Wills subdivision.

View Entry 1925 Henry Weis Manufacturing Company v. J. Walter Jones, et al. & Detroit Steel Products Co. v. J. Walter Jones et al. Shelby Debt Dispute

Additional defendants: Hartford Accident and Indemnity Co. & Board of Education of Memphis City Schools. Jones entered into a contract with the Board and delivered a bond for $88,263.90. After execution of bond it sold and delivered under special contract to Walter for use in construction of school under the contract for $2268. No part of this account has been paid for. 3 folders. Additional defendants: John C. McLemore, Clerk of the County Court and Probate Court, S. J. Shepherd, J. C. Adams, Trustee and Bank of Commerce & Trust Co. Victor Fuchs, exe. of estate of Anaise T. Fuchs, dec. Plaintiff and defendant are brothers and Anaise was their sister. Victor is claiming he has been denied his rights to the real property, its rental value, a voice in management or handling the property. Victor is claiming this is fraud. Plaintiffs were real estate brokers & agents in Memphis. Plaintiffs were hired by defendants to find them a suitable location for their business in Memphis. Plaintiffs claim that once the defendants signed the lease for the new business lcoation that they were owed 2 1/2% on the rental claim. Plaintiffs claim this percentage has been fixed rate for years. Plaintiffs claim that the defendants are indebted to them for $15,000 as compensation due under their specific contracts. 3 folders.

View Entry 1925 Sledge & Norfleet Company v. J. W. Lake Shelby Contract Dispute and Damages

Sledge and Norfleet Company entered into a contract with B.M. Matthews to extend credit to him, and J.W. Lake guaranteed the account up to $5,000. In the event that Matthews did not pay Sledge and Norfleet Company, Lake would pay the debt. Matthews did not pay what was owned on the contract, and neither did Lake.
