The lease concerned land within the "Indian boundary" near Post Oak Springs that the plaintiffs claimed to have acquired permission to lease from a Cherokee man "Dry Scalp" or "Dry Sculp" (name or location?) for the purpose of opening a "Public House" for travelers. In 1787 Joel Lewis purchased acreage land from Mr. Gordon of Georgia. Wm. T. Lewis then claimed ownership to some of this land, being given a grant by the state of NC then conveyed it to Stokely Donelson, who agreed to convey other land to Joel Lewis. The conveyance was not made before Stokely died. The suit was filed to finalize land ownership. |

In 1806, Lawrence Smith owned land in Williamson County on Murphy's Fork of the West Harpeth River. When he took possession, he cleared 20 acres, and purchased a house on the land built by Robert Brown. James Black then claimed that he was the true owner of the house and land, and it had been granted to him by John Armstrong. Suit sought to settle true ownership of the property. |

Dr. Mark Brown Sappington died, leaving a large estate including enslaved people in Nashville. His second wife, Rebecca Boyce sued to retain the dower to the estate. Near the same time, Mark's brother Francis died also leaving an estate. Documents include an extensive probate inventory & sale sheet, detailing the belongings of the family (including detailed kitchen furniture) as well as detailing the community invested in the estate through the purchase of Mark's things. |

Simon Miller pledged to John Nichols in 1805 to pay $640 within six months, in return for a fee simple deed on a tract of land. Miller then created a conveyance to Simon Miller, jr. for the same land. Miller, sr. was accused of trying to defraud Nichols by tricking him into land that he would never rightfully own. |

Suit was filed to settle the land ownership and estate. Plaintiffs: Nancy Billings, Josiah Brown, Jacob Brown, Thomas Brown (William Billings is the guardian for Josiah, Thomas and Jacob).
