In a previous suit, Frederic Uhl successfully sued Peter Turney and was awarded a judgment of about $300. Greer was his bonded surety. Turney did not pay the judgment, and then died. Greer sued Turney's estate, of which Williams was the executor, in order to settle the debt. |

Waller hired Scales to transport and sell a number of enslaved people in Natchez. They were sold for $2000, but upon his return Scales failed to turn the profit over to Waller. Waller sued to recover the profits from the sale of his enslaved workforce. |
