Dearing states that he was living on a piece of land before the "act disposing of the lands in the Ocoee District." He went to Arkansas "with the last detachment of the emigrating Cherokee Indians, as the driver of a team." He did this to raise money ($7. 50 per acre) to buy the land once the Entry Taker's Office opened. He left his wife and family living on the land and told Thomas Shirley, his nephew, about it. During Dearing's absence, Shirley tricked Dearing's son, Gilbert, into signing a transfer. |

Williams was appointed admr. of her estate, which included several negroes, which Joseph distributed among the heirs, including Cynthia (who had married John Kennedy, who took possession of said negroes). John Kennedy then died & John Williams was appointed his admr. & treated the negroes as belonging to John Kennedy, a point disputed by Cynthia who then sued. |

He believes the Joneses plan to sell the land & leave the area with the proceeds rather than use them to pay the judgment. |

Kennedy took the money, but did not fulfill his end of their agreement. |

Arnolds claimed that, before they married, Def. indebted to Sarah (then Sarah Hodges & formerly Sarah Cobb) for large quantity of corn, wheat & oats she provided. When he died, William P. Cobb owned land on which these crops grew, which came into possession of Charles B. Hodges when he married Sarah. When Charles died, Calloway (who may be Charles' dad) became admr. of estate. Case mentions negroes Hodges owned. |

Plaintiff sued to have the contract between himself & defendant voided. On 18 Oct. 1840 Davis entered into a contract with Tankesly whereby Davis would supply everything necessary for the operation of a tannery & Tankelsy would tan $100 worth of hides a year for him. Since then plaintiff has found himself unable to fulfill his obligations because of Tankelsy's inability to tan hides within a reasonable amount of time despite having professed to be expert at tanning. |
