Complex case with many defendants, including John Russell & John Lackey, admr. Of Absolom Mattock. Ambrister sued for an injunction against the defendants restraining them from selling tracts of land and a lien upon the lands granted to him. He also wanted what was entitled to him from the Lewis[?] Browder estate. Possibly related to case John W. Lackey & J. R. Russell, admrs. V. Asa Ambrister, Excr. In Chancery Court in Loudon County in 1873 for inventory of property (ET 1223).

The plaintiff entered into an agreement with the defendants to purchase a house and land. The plaintiff paid for the purchase, in part, with tobacco. The defendants now refuse to provide the deed to the house and land, claiming the tobacco was not worth the agreed upon amount.

Additional defendants: Sarah McCorkle, William McCorkle, John Gray and Robert Gray. The plaintiff alleges that he entered into an agreement to sell land to Davidson. Davidson wished to pay with Confederate notes. The plaintiff initially refused but states that he was intimidated and coerced into accepting said notes.

Estate of William McDowell, deceased.

Moyers charges Sharp & Houston for cheating and defrauding her of a valuable tract of 100 acres. Houston pressured Moyer to sign deed in which Houston promised to pay $25 a year for 5 years for lands he claimed was worth little. Houston gave note for $125 (for land Moyers found out was worth $800-900), which he never paid. Houston then fraudulently conveyed land to Sharp to avoid vendors lien in scheme to not pay for land. Moyers asks their deeds be made void and land given back.

Statham sued defendants for redemption of land; Statham wanted the title divested from defendants and to himself and wanted an account taken of the rents and profits of the land taken and the defendant liable for the same.

In 1862 the plaintiffs purchased from the defendant a tract of land in said County of about 470 acres. The purchase money agreed upon by the parties was $6,000, of which $3,000 was given up front and the balance was issued in promissory notes. A note was transferred to one Warren Hiten for $1,000. Although more time was left for payments, the defendant forcibly entered the plaintiff's property demanding full payment and through fraud convinced them he could bring legal action against them.

Swaney, James Haynes, Nathaniel Hewing and wife Caroline, Elizabeth Swaney, Charles Swaney, Thomas Darnell and wife Mary, and Nancy Carry. Settlement of the estate of James M. Swaney; contested marriage/heirs.

In 1865, the parties entered into a partnership for the purpose of prosecuting their business as attorneys at law. By the terms of the agreement, the parties were to work under the firm name Fleming & Brooks and to share the profits equally and to share expenses. Brooks believes the defendant broke into his desk and destroyed his copy of the agreement before trying to dissolve the partnership and also took money made by the firm, part of which rightfully belongs to the plaintiff.

Snoddy et al. suing attachment suit on land to pay for defendants' debts. They wanted title to land sold and proceeds used as payment for debts as well as an injunction to keep them from selling or transferring the title.

Additional Complainant: G. K. Smith. Complainants sought an injunction preventing defendant from selling or transferring a note.

Case concerns a vendor lien for mis-paid purchase money for land in White county alleged to have been sold to C. W. Gibbs to the Rodgers in 1851 and bond given for little. Two of said notes for $1000.00 each were due January 1, 1856 & 1857. These notes were transferred by Gibbs to G. M. Fogg, the admr. Of Henry Dickenson, dec.

Additional Defendants: Robert Cantrel, Stephen Betty, William A. Ransom, J. M. Allen. Complainant Carter petitioned the court to ascertain the amount of debt owed by the dissolved partnership of Carter & Allen.
