Camp Porter, an African American carpenter, was prosecuted for attempted petty larceny after breaking into the home of John Kent & attempt to rape Kent's wife, Elizabeth Ann Kent. Both Porter & Kent worked for Judge Temple, Porter even lived on his property. Porter would visit the Kent family to visit, while "picking his banjo." Rape charge dropped due to lack of evidence. This case was consolidated with Nancy Dalzell, John Shanks, admr., Margaret Kayter, J. A . McKinney, admr., C. C. Miller, Wiley Miller, Wesley Phipps, all v. George Powell. Stated in Decree on page 319. In May 1868, Alexander purchased land supposedly previously belonging to Powell. Deed said that any debts called on Powell in the next two years could be paid by possession of the land purchased by Alexander. Case seeks to settle debts and disputes on land ownership. |

In 1860, the plaintiff, intermarried with James Rhea, sold to the defendant a tract of the inherited land. L.J. Rhea states she was influenced by the defendant and perhaps her husband and never gave full and unbiased consent for the transfer of the title. States the defendant never registered the invalid deed. |

They forced him to leave his property and kept him for a full month. |

After the defendant collected the purchase money, the defendant learned he had no jurisdiction to sell the land and so all the proceedings were void as no title was transferred to the plaintiff. |
