Deposition includes account of enslaved people attempting to escape during the war. |

Conner was elderly, & his wife had cancer. They were unable to care for themselves, & gave land to Marshall so he would take care of them. Marshall would pay $2k if he did not provide "nourishing food & clothes" for the couple until they died. Marshall apparently became dissatisfied with the arrangement & Conner sued to enforce the agreement, voiding the deed to the land. Incomplete case; brief only. |

Glass was owner of city lot in Chattanooga and conveyed it to S.A. Key as trustee to secure a debt of $372 to T.K. Warnacut. If debt was not paid in 8 months, trustee could sell land. Glass charged that said deed was security for debt due Warnacut and nothing more-that he has the right to redeem said lot. Though Glass offered Ragadale $675 but she refused. Glass suing Ragsdale to redeem his property. |

Additional defendants: Samuel R. McCamy and Benjamin Chandler. Defendants were partners under Thompson & Co. Anderson was accommodation endorser for the firm Chandler & Co. and Thompson & Co. Anderson sued for liability on a $1000 bill from October 1860 which was removed from the bank and debt never paid. Planters Bank had brought suit against defendants, including Anderson, and won. Anderson was compelled to pay the $1000. Now he's suing to be held accountable only as accom. Endorser. |

William Barnett had executed a deed of trust to W.W. Mullindore as trustee to secure certain debts. Gieslers charge that Barnett gave sufficient claims to pay off entire debt, including a tract of land, a carding machine, and livestock-including 3 horses 2 of the 3 horses were then in the hands of Giesler who did not know of the deed of trust. McLin had brought suit for replevin. Gieslers charge the deed is fraudulent-that trustees knew Barnett was selling property and did not dissent. |

Bearden had brought suit against Fadlock for trespass in previous suit, which was dismissed and Court ruled in favor of Fadlock. Hudnall's name was listed as a security for costs of prosecution bond, but Hudnall charged that Bearden never asked him to be security nor had he ever been Bearden's security. Hudnall claimed he was not liable for any costs of trespass suit and wanted an injunction to prohibit collection of judgment from him. |

Incomplete case file; opinion only. I. Z. Gibson gave a deed to Barry conveying chattel including enslaved people, that belonged to Gibson valued at $2900. The bill was originally filed in 1870, by then both Gibson & wife were dead, but other bills against them arose. Frayser contacted Barry to replevin the goods she obtained from Gibson in order to settle the disputes. Barry sued in response. |

Plaintiff sues by next friend S. A. Wallis. The parties were married in 1857 and they bought of J. E. Hickox a tract of land, paid for out of the plaintiff's own means, for which a deed was conveyed. The conveyance of the land was to be made to the her, but ended up being in the defendant's name. The said land is her only home and has no other means than those invested in the land, which is support enough for herself and their children. Suing to obtain a filed deed in her name from her husband. |

The plaintiffs sold and conveyed to the defendant Sampson a tract of land for payment of $600, with faith they would receive the money through time. Sampson then conveyed the same land to W. Brock for a mule worth $70 and $600 in Confederate money. The plaintiffs filed the bill after no money was paid by Sampson and the Confederate money he was paid was illegal and worthless and the mule belonged to another person. The plaintiffs want the money promised them as Sampson had no payment from Brock. |
