In order to do so without holding an election, Newport attempted to annex Clifton. Citizens of Clifton brought suit. Clifton was eventually renamed to Newport. |

Gamble, Will A. McTeer, and A.S. Mason were partners in trade until Mason's death. A settlement was made which found the plaintiff indebted to the Mason estate for $500. Arch Mason had obtained judgment of $261.17 for Gamble and McTeer's joint note. Gamble wants Arch Mason restrained from collecting said judgment and for the amount of $72.23 be deducted from the judgment-an amount Gamble believed was due to him by Mason estate for the amount he paid as surety in another suit. |

In 1866, the plaintiffs obtained a judgment against the defendants for $3,138.57 and defendants levied 560 acres against the debt, conveyed by G. Delozier to Boyd in 1853, but there was an issue of the rightful title holder. |

Particular piece of land in Memphis, triangular in its layout, is the center of this dispute. Grieshaber purchased a large tract of land adjoining the triangular piece and tried to claim it as his own. The city of Memphis argues that the triangular tract of land was donated to the city some thirty years earlier by a Mr. McElmore for the purpose of a park. It seems neither side has an actual deed to the property. The city states it has been considered public property. 2 folders. |

After settling the debt, the plaintiff retained a lifetime interest in one half of the land, split with the defendants who tried to take full possession of the land and eject the plaintiff from the same after an agreement was made with the seller to allow plaintiff to remain on the land until their full portion of buying funds was seen. |

Martin owned a tract of land containing 300 acres, on which he resided for 30 years. In 1865, he sold the land to J. Cross for $5,000, for which the defendant executed several notes but never paid in full. Plaintiff sued to determine the rightful title owner of the land against the heirs at law. |

In 1859 the plaintiff endorsed a note worth $1639.55 drawn by N M Walker and Catherine Walker. The note was used to purchase a lot of land from C W Cherry. In Feb 1860 N M and Catherine Walker executed a trust deed. Three notes were issued to support the trust deed. Williams sued in 1865 for payment of the notes. In 1861 a suit was brought against the plaintiff and the Walkers. It was not decided against the Walkers and the plaintiff until 1866 for $2,157.50 and $16.45 costs of the suit. |
