In 1873 Brewster was seen hanging around the corner of the courthouse in Sparta close to William Gracy's grocery with a small Smith & Wesson brass cartidge pistol. There was difficulty between Willhite and Meredith and Meredit was Brewster's nephew. Witnesses testified that Brewster fired the gun seven times. |
