Bradley was observed leaving the area with a gun and several witnesses testified to finding his tracks near the scene of the murder. Bradley was described as “quarrelsome,” and had history of disagreements with Maples. |

Addtl dfnt: C. J. Morgan, Sherriff of Grainger County. In a hostile post-Civil War atmosphere Derault sought a robbery suit against pltf, a former Confederate soldier. To avoid a trial and maintain personal safety, Cleveland paid a note to Derault. Years later Derault sued on the note. That suit resulted in fi fa of Cleveland's property. Cleveland sued for injunction against fi fa and ruling of Derault's suit on the note. |
