Best's bill of complaint was against John Best, Elias Best, B. F. McGhee, and T. C. & R. R. Co. and regarding the recovery of $22,500. A. S. Additional Defendants: Thomas Edwards and wife Martha Edwards, and John Batey. A. M. Edwards was appointed guardian of Willie Edwards, child of O. H. Edwards, dec., in 1881. Prior to that time, Thomas Batey was his guardian (1868-1881) and collected rents on his behalf. Upon a court ordered settlement of the trust, Batey owed the minor Edwards $about $2000, but was insolvent. His new guardian sued Batey and his securities to recover the debt.

Add. Plaintiffs:G.L. Harris, M.S. Kaggs, & Nancy Journey. Add. Defendants: John Childress & A.J. Taylor. W.A. Childress appointed guardian of J. Kaggs' heirs with J. Childress & Taylor as securities over bond. Defendants were administrators over other children in the family that passed before the case. Plaintiffs state that W.A. Childress held personal and real estate property from the surviving heirs, including misrepresenting rental profits. Also fighting to make Beasley guardian.

Rush, a brakeman on a train that had mechanical problems, was sent back up the track to warn 2 oncoming trains that the track was blocked. He warned the 1st train, but when the 2nd passed, he was out of flares, & sat down on the track with his lantern to warn the oncoming 2nd train. It was foggy night. He was sleepy & dosed off on the tracks until the cow catcher of the oncoming train hit him in the head. Rush sued for damages of $1000.

Incomplete (brief only). Wm Gardenshire, dad of Susan (Gardenshire) Hunter & George W. Gardenshire, & grandpa of Caldonie (Susan's dau), died in Chattanooga in 1840, owning slaves & land (subject of dispute). Caldonie says Wm left will in which he freed slaves & left property to Susan for life, remainder to her children, but after Wm died, George & others concealed will from Susan & her children. Many yrs later, Susan & Caldonie became aware of will & filed suit. See related case: ET Box 79 (circuit ct).

Additional Defendants: John, Sallie, Mary E., and James Oats (all minors) and their guardian and father, J. T. Oats; L. T. Lindsey and wife; and Joshua G. Searcy. Bates was administrator of Austin W. Elrod, dec.

Additional plaintiffs Sally Hopkins, William Young & Nancy Young. Additional defendants William Ragland, Penelope Ragland, Thomas B. Upchurch, Rhoda Upchurch, Thomas Young, B. J. Young, Rhoda Young, Harriet Ragland, John Young, & James Roland. Defendants are the children of Thomas Upchurch, deceased. Complainants charged that Thomas Upchurch did not own the 200 acres so they are claiming they are the rightful owners of the land.

Epperson is the administrator of John A. Cole, dec. James S. Day & William P. Proudfit own the company making the complaint.

Additional plaintiffs and defendants not named. John K. Ramsey admr. for J. S. Ramsey who died December 1876 intestate. J. S. Ramsey was Carroll Co. Trustee, & collected and received about $3000 for county school fund which had not been accounted for by his estate's representatives.

"Edmond Daly and W. L. Daly, infants without regular guardian, residents of Tipton County, Tennessee, bring this their bill of complaint by L. E. Daly, their next friend." They are the nephews of Edmond Daly who died intestate in 1864; his sole heir was W. L. Daly, their father. They claim to be entitled to property from that estate obtained fraudulently by Frank and others. Folder includes two legal briefs.
