Thomas G. Boyd alleged that in 1866, he, Alex Lee, Larkin Carden, A. T. Morgan's widow and heirs, and William Lee (Morgan's son-in-law), became the sureties of G. P. Carmichael on a replevin bond involving a large tract of Morgan's land. The court fined Lee, who had attempted to collect Morgan's debts and cash in on them. Carden claimed title to the land.
