Case file incomplete; brief only. In May, 1883 Acuff contracted with Cox to sell him a tract of land in Raccoon Valley containing about 130 acres. Price for the land was $800.00. Cox paid about $450.00. and executed a note for the remainder. At the time See ET Box 1871 as well - no deed or title was drawn as some surveying needed to be done. Cox became very ill and Acuff was advised to draw up a deed but kept the deed in his possession. Cox recovered and refused to acknowledge deed as was written. |

W. L. Doss owned a tract of land and conveyed land to Swaffer. Jane, Doss’s wife, would not sign the contract and it was never registered in the Register’s office. Doss moved the family to a poorer farm against Jane's wishes and she later filed suit to recover the land from Swaffer. Next friend Thomas L. Dixon. 90 pages in ET1940 |

Plaintiff (who says she was illiterate) has possessed the land at issue since then. At some point, there was an issue re: the need to sign new deeds, as the wives had not signed the originals. Plaintiff signed the deed, but Def. Parker never made good on his promise to get his wife to sign a new deed. Martha was 87 at time of suit. |

Reason & Zachariah B. are brothers contesting ownership of a tract of land, the circumstances of the Civil War complicated things. Z. was involved in 1864 capture of Young Harris, who was charged as Federal spy. Z. had to flee the county & turned the land over to R. R. was named in a damage suit by a Union soldier, Cox. Cox beat & threatened him and R. fled, leaving the land for Z. to care for. Upon their return, the brothers attempted to settle the land dispute. 267 pages in ET1936 |

Brown et al. in ET1228 that sought to eject the plaintiff and claim rights to rent money. |
