1885: Harris got judgment against Hassel on certain notes; if Hassel didn't pay by certain time, his land would be sold to satisfy same. He didn't pay, so land sold (130 acres, aka Strother Place) to J.T. & J.E. Strother who gave notes for same. Later proceeding (5 pgs added): Sale occurred 20 yrs ago but notes never cancelled; Hon. B.D. Bell gave affidavit that he was then atty for Haughton heirs & that notes were pd.

Other plaintiff: Samuel R. Oakley. Plaintiffs' land was sold to pay a debt owed to defendant, who later allowed them to buy it back with interest. They are claiming that he owed them rent, since he was living on the land after they signed a contract to purchase it from him.

The plaintiff is the son of the defendant. He and his mother purchased a piece of property together and built a house there. It was supposed to revert to the son after his mother's death, but the father managed to put his name on the property and refused to allow his son to move into the house.

View Entry 1885 Aaron Dove v. F. W. Dove Washington Notes

In 1857, the plaintiff and defendant purchased jointly, a tract of land from Michael Bashor for $1,340. The plaintiff paid $400 in cash at the time of purchase and the two parties executed joint notes to Bashor and parties Bashor owed money for the rest. The defendant claimed he paid $187 more than the plaintiff, who was bad with numbers and accepted the claim, signing several notes to equalize their ownership. Later, the plaintiff discovered he was misled and overpaid prompting this suit.

Rhea resided outside city limits, procured a portion of the town to be surveyed together with a portion from Cocke County. This cases concerns the dispute between the boundary lines for the application of the charter for the town of Newport. 2 folders.

Add. complainants: Robert Farris, A.T. Battle, trustees of the Shiloh Baptist Church, Chattanooga. Additional defs.: Moses Williams, Daniel Hartman, Sandy Templeton, Samuel Watkins. The original Shiloh Baptist Church burned down and the lot was vacant vacant for some time. It was decided by vote to purchase a new lot and sell the old lot- using the proceeds to construct a new church. The defendants decided to obstruct the sale and were about to take possession of the lot and build a shed.

J.B. Bell (deceased) used credit to purchase a large order from complainant and said he could only pay back half of what he bought due to poor sales. It was later found he had made a large profit from the sales that he intended to keep.

View Entry 1885 Alva Breece v. J. M. Bond & H. C. Hunter Hickman Land and Title Dispute

Breece bought 2 pieces of Hickman County land from T.S. Easley & his wife L.J. Easley, after which Def. Bond became security for a debt T.S. owed & ultimately got a judgment against T.S. for that debt & tried to execute that judgment against this land. Hunter was the sheriff charged with levying against land to satisfy judgments. Breece asked court for injunction to keep Def.. from selling the land. Main issue was whether Breece's deed properly registered. Witnesses: Walker, Thomas, Bates.

With her death heirs now suing defendant, alleging that Bleidens died in possession of land in TN now being used by the defendant. They claim title to land.
