Plaintiff brought suit against defendant for damages due to an injury incurred while working as a brakeman, and was granted a judgment of $3875.00. Plaintiff claims equipment defect & neglect caused his hand to be caught between cars & crushed. Plaintiff claims he was in the proper discharge of his duties, while def. knowingly allowed unsafe conditions. Def. moved to dismiss over residency issues. Accident occurred near Guthrie KY.

View Entry 1887 J. C. Murphy v. Louisville & Nashville Rail Road Company Robertson Damages

Plaintiff sued for $10,000. Claim was that while driving his horse and buggy across the rail road tracks at Adams Station the train conductor blew the steam whistle. This frightened his horse, causing it to run away and also causing the buggy to crash.

Additional defendant: W.W. Jernigan. Plaintiff states in March 1887, defendant Jernigan sought a writ of attachment of 4,000 lbs. of tobacco. Defendant Payne, as constable, executed said writ & left crop in question with defendant Jernigan. Plaintiff seeks damages of the value of the tobacco, $500. Plaintiff further claims the said writ in question was dismissed as Jernigan's cost.
