The def. was accused of whipping and striking Johnnie Bennalt, a minor of 11 years old, after Bennalt and the defendant's son got into a fight. Casefile notes that the def. is a carpenter and the fight between his son and Bennalt occurred at his mill.

Def. in error was the owner of a mercantile business selling dry goods, groceries, hardware, and produce, located in Charity, TN. The building which housed said business and the stock of goods inside were destroyed by fire on April 15, 1890. Def. claims said business was insured against fire by the pla. in error and complains that pla. has refused to honor the insurance contract. Def. is seeking payment. Reese also spelled, "Rees."
