Joseph Noe father of plntff. Deft. purchased a lot for $400 that was part of a tract of land that had once belonged to David Noe & had been sold to pay his estate's debts. When deft. found himself unable to pay the debt & faced a forced sale of the land he entered into a contract whereby the plntff. would pay the debt in full in exchange for the retention of all of the rights held by the current creditor. Plntff. paid the debt but sued because deft. refused to repay him. |

John A. Davis and Co was comprised of John A. Davis and James B. Hughes. Plaintiffs entered into a contract with the defendant to purchase a large lot of mules, wagons, and carts for $7,775. The defendant also cosigned to the plaintiff enough coal to keep the purchased teams occupied. Plaintiff now complains that the defendant did not ship enough coal causing them to lose money each month. Plaintiff is suing to collect the lost revenue. 2 folders. |

Plaintiff states that after running the game for only a few minutes he was arrested and charged with running a gambling game. The plaintiff is seeking the return of the payment he made to the defendant. The plaintiff's game consisted of a plank with a hole in it that contains a "negro head," which players attempt to hit with balls. |

Woods and Hatchett both claim ownership of the same plot of land in Franklin County. After the death of Zacariah Woods, his land was portioned between his eight heirs. After estate sales, this plot of land was sold, while an heir thought they had remained in ownership. Through various transactions, Woods and Hatchett came to hold the land titles, Woods sought outright ownership. Case includes an injunction bill against Hatchett. |

Isaac Cookston was too poor to care for his son, so the 9-year-old boy was sent to live with the Fosters, who would treat him as their child. He testified that he worked as a lackey boy doing farm and house work. "They furnished me with [John W. F. Foster's] old cast off clothing….I had to eat at the second table, and if there was any negroes there I had to eat at the same table with them." He slept in the potato house for years. The Fosters taught him at home. Cookston sued for $3,000 lost wages. |
